When it comes to pickup trucks that are safe, reliable, and incredibly tough, it’s hard to beat the new 2020 Ram 1500. With tons of safety and security features, this new Ram truck is a top competitor in its class. Offered in seven trim levels, it is equipped with the most innovative cargo management system on the market. Famous for its aggressively-styled grille, this beast will have heads turning everywhere you go.
Buyers can choose from two cab styles and two different bed lengths depending on their needs. First is the Quad Cab that can carry five passengers and features a short 5.7-foot bed. The larger option is the Crew Cab, which seats up to six people and is equipped with a bed measuring 6.4-feet. Either body style comes with the class-exclusive RamBox cargo management system and the Multifunction Tailgate. With the innovative cargo management system, drainable, lockable, weather-proof storage compartments line both sides of the bed. These handy storage boxes are also lighted inside so that you can easily see what you’re looking for at night or in dimly lit areas.
As for the Multifunction Tailgate, this is Ram’s shining star at the moment. Featuring two swing-out-style 60/40 split doors that open up to 88-degrees, this tailgate offers drivers versatility that conventional tailgates don’t. It makes it easier to get things out of the back of the truck, and it makes loading the bed a breeze with a payload capacity of 2,100 pounds. Since it is multifunction, you can still open the tailgate out like a traditional tailgate as well.

Starting at
The 2020 Ram 1500 is available with multiple powertrain choices. It comes standard with a 3.6L V6 mated with an 8-speed automatic that generates 305 horsepower. Equipped with RWD, it can tow up to 7,730 pounds and still gets good gas mileage. This powertrain’s estimated fuel economy is set at 23 mpg combined (20 city/26 highway). Not too shabby, eh?
Optional powertrains come in the forms of diesel or a V8. For the ultimate power trip, you can opt for the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine that pushes out 260 hp. It has a best-in-class towing capacity of 12,560 pounds, which is staggering. Need even more power than that? The beastly 5.7L HEMI V8 motor gets up to 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. By itself, this motor can haul up to 11,610 pounds. This engine can also be fitted with the innovative eTorque system, which replaces the conventional alternator with a 48-volt battery-powered, belt-driven generator. This revolutionary hybrid feature boosts the Ram’s fuel efficiency, drivability, maximum payload capacity, and the overall performance. It also pushes the maximum towing capacity up to 12,750 pounds.
Another notable performance feature on the new 2020 Ram 1500 is the active air dam. When the vehicle reaches speeds of at least 30 mph, the active air dam will extend 2.5-inches downward to help reduce drag. Along with an elevated hood that optimizes air deflection, these aerodynamic features greatly improve the Ram’s fuel efficiency. Add the truck’s sculpted roof style and rear spoiler, and you have a sleek model that cuts through the air, unlike any other pickup in its class.
When it comes to interior comfort, convenience, and entertainment features, the new Ram 1500 is loaded even at the base level. Kicking things off with the Tradesman, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the number of advanced features inside this standard model. When you slip behind the wheel, you’ll be sliding across manually-adjustable seats covered in vinyl upholstery. Because this trim is typically chosen by folks who use the truck for agriculture jobs and construction work, the vinyl material makes cleaning up spills and mud super easy. You don’t have to break out the foam cleaning chemicals or the scrub brush to remove that coffee. You can simply wipe it up.
With seating for six people, there’s plenty of room for the entire crew to get to the job site, and they can all stay connected to the outside world with the 4G LTE Wifi hotspot. Conveniently store loose papers, manuals, flashlights, and other small items in the many storage compartments throughout the cabin. These include spacious door bins, a lockable glovebox, and a mini overhead console. As for entertainment, you can listen to your favorite songs through the 6-speaker stereo. The infotainment interface is displayed on a 5-inch touchscreen that operates with Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calling. There’s also a trio of 12-volt outlets for hooking up accessories.
Taking a step up to the Big Horn model will add compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless audio streaming and app integration. You can also choose between an 8.5-inch touchscreen or the larger 12-inch monitor. One thing you should also know if you ever take a trip to Texas, this trim level is known as the Lone Star over there.
If you are looking for a truck that has been optimized for off-roading, the Rebel is your best bet. It offers heated seating and a few advanced safety features such as rear parking sensors. These help with parallel street parking, backing out of tight spaces, and hooking up a trailer. Most of the other features can be seen on the exterior.
By far, the best-selling Ram 1500 model is the mid-level Laramie. Featuring power-adjustable front seats with leather trim, occupants can stay warm in the winter with the heating feature and cool in the summer with the ventilation feature. The infotainment interface gets the upgrade 8.4-inch touchscreen and a premium 9-speaker stereo system.
If you want a little more luxury that just heated/cooled seats, take a Laramie Longhorn out for a spin. This model gets the royal treatment with premium leather upholstery that is, of course, heated and ventilated. You won’t have to worry about sitting on ice-cold leather in the winter or scalding hot leather in the summer.
Lastly, the top-of-the-line Limited model has everything we already mentioned plus a premium 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. Voice-activated navigation has been included to ensure that you get to your desired destination as quickly as possible. Blindspot sensors and front/back parking sensors have also been added for enhanced safety.
Other features to take note of include active noise cancellation and a larger 7-inch driver information screen with 3D graphics. Also, a massive 10-square-foot dual-pane panoramic sunroof can be included as well as up to four USB ports for charging mobile devices.
As with the cabin features, exterior styling elements vary depending on the trim. The Tradesman includes 17-inch steel wheels, a black grille, and black bumpers. The Chrome Appearance Package is also available if you want that look.
Riding on 18-inch aluminum wheels is the Big Horn (Lone Star) model. It also features chrome front/back bumpers, door handles, and grille. The Sport Appearance Package is available on this trim for a monochromatic look.
One of the most customizable trims is the Laramie. You can choose from several wheel options, including the massive black 22-inch forged aluminum wheels. This beast is dripping in chrome and features the signature badging. For a blacked-out aesthetic, the Night Edition Appearance Package is also available.
The off-roading Rebel adds all-terrain tires, an electronic locking rear axle, and tow hooks. LED lighting has been included, and you can opt for the Black Appearance Package if you want that mysterious aesthetic we mentioned on the Laramie trim.
As for the luxurious Laramie Longhorn, power running boards have been added as well as front tow hooks. This truck rides on 20-inch aluminum wheels, or you can opt for the 22-inch wheels. Finally, the Limited receives a facelift with the addition of a mesh chrome grille and unique badging.
