Looking for a heavy-duty pickup truck that makes all the other competitors tremble? Look no further than the 2020 Ram 2500. This aggressively-styled vehicle makes quite a first impression. From the bold grille to the rumbling engine under the hood and everything in-between, you’ll be hard-pressed to find something you don’t love about this beast.

Available in six trims, three cabin styles, and two bed lengths, the versatile 2020 Ram 2500 can carry three to six people. The Regular Cab comes with an 8-foot bed, the Crew Cab comes with either a 6-foot-4-inch and an 8-foot bed, and the Mega Cab is available only with the shorter 6-foot-4-inch bed. If you opt for the longer 8-foot bed, you will have a maximum cargo volume of about 74.7 cubic feet. So, in this case, buying a truck does not mean losing cargo or passenger space. When you are in the market for a heavy-duty truck, you are likely looking for something with strength. And whether you want a truck for adventures or work, the Ram 2500 has you covered. This impressive truck has the capability to handle the toughest terrain and the heaviest trailers. Exactly how much power does it have? Let's take a look at the awe-inspiring numbers.

    A Look at the Engines

You’re in for a treat when you pop the hood of the new 2020 Ram 2500. The standard powertrain is a 6.4-liter V8 motor that generates a best-in-class 410 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. Equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission and FWD, with 4WD optional, this powertrain can haul a maximum of 17,540 pounds.

And if those impressive numbers are not enough, the second powertrain is a turbo-diesel 6.7-liter I-6 motor that pumps out 370 hp and a staggering (best-in-class) 850 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and FWD, this powertrain can haul up to 19,680 pounds without breaking a sweat. If you’re worried about vibrations from such a powerful engine, don’t! The specialized gears and electronically-controlled transmission make for a smooth, quiet ride.

    The Nitty-Gritty

Since both powertrains can handle hefty loads, you might be wondering how that’s possible. Several factors go into heavy-duty towing. One of those factors is the class-exclusive Auto Level rear suspension system. It automatically adapts to the weight of shifting loads and to changes in the road. Next is the WARN ZEON-12 Winch featuring a lightweight synthetic line that can pull 12,000 pounds. Also, the Ram 2500 frame is built out of 98.5% steel and aluminum, making it very strong and more lightweight.

Other performance features on the 2020 Ram 2500 include Bilstein gas-charged monotube shocks. These are designed to keep the truck on the ground while going over rough terrain. Add a front sway bar for optimized axle articulation and rear locking differentials, and you have a supreme vehicle that can handle just about anything.

Inside the 2020 Ram 2500: Trim by Trim

The 2020 Ram 2500 is available in six amazing trims. The Tradesman is the base model, and it’s the ideal work truck for construction crews, landscaping teams, and even people working in agriculture. The seats are covered in vinyl upholstery that is work-grade. For entertainment along the way, the infotainment system is displayed on a 5-inch touchscreen that operates with Bluetooth connectivity. You can make and receive calls, send text messages, and even stream music. A USB port is also included for charging your mobile device on your way to work.

The second trim is known as the Bighorn. This nifty model offers four unique interior color combinations for more customization options, cloth upholstery, and carpeted floors. The touchscreen interface in this trim is upgraded to a 12-inch monitor that operates with an added rearview camera and Alpine sound system with nine speakers. And advanced safety features on this trim include lane-keeping assist and lane-departure warning.

The most popular trim is the Laramie. People tend to gravitate towards this model because it has a great balance of high-tech features, and it’s still available at a more affordable price. Inside the cabin, you will notice soft-touch surfaces, ambient lighting, and leather-trimmed upholstery with subtle suede inserts for a classy look. Stepping up to the Power Wagon model redesigns the cabin in all black and graphite. This rugged style is very appealing for folks who like a tougher look.

If you are more partial to the western appearance, the Laramie Longhorn is every cowboy’s (or cowgirl’s) dream ride. Most of the styling elements are seen on the outside, which we will cover shortly. However, the cabin is also dripping with southwestern charm. Genuine wood accents the dashboard, and alligator embossed accents really tie the whole look together.

Finally, the Limited trim is the top-of-the-line model. Featuring wood and aluminum accents inside the cabin and full leather upholstery, you can’t find a more luxurious heavy-duty truck than this one. The UConnect 4C NAV infotainment interface is displayed on an 8.4-inch touchscreen. It functions with a navigation system, a 4G LTE Wifi hotspot, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and HD radio. You can listen to anything you want through the upgraded Harman Kardon sound system, and it comes with a staggering 17 speakers. You can have your own personal concert on your way to work.

    Some Highlights

The upper trims have quite a few great features that deserve to be highlighted. Included in these upper trims are things like, dual-zone climate control, heated/ventilated seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 115-volt power outlet, and numerous safety features. These high-tech safety systems can be added as stand-alone options. You can get adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree parking camera system, blindspot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning. With all of these features, you will be driving in luxury.

The next trim, the Bighorn, rides on 18-inch steel wheels and features a sleek chrome trim, a power-sliding rear window, remote locking/unlocking, and an integrated trailer brake controller.

As you continue to move up the Ram 2500 trim ladder, you will get more and more chrome on the outside. Other exterior features you will see include power-folding/auto-dimming side mirrors and the RamBox cargo management system. This innovative cargo setup comes with tie-downs, an adjustable bed divider, and even storage compartments located along the bedsides. LED exterior lighting is also included for optimized visibility at night and during inclement weather.

For a special exterior, you can opt for the off-roading enhanced Power Wagon trim, where you will get some great features that can help you tackle rough terrain. These include off-roading shock absorbers, all-terrain tires, tow hooks, tow mirrors, skids plates, electronically locking differentials, a 4.10 axle ratio, a manual transfer case, and an integrated winch. Additional exterior features on the Power Wagon include hill descent control and a front stabilizer bar. But whether you go all out with packages like this, or stick to the Tradesman, the exterior of this vehicle is tough and shows its true colors.
